If you have been awake at any time over the last 7 days you certainly know the name: Steven Slater. The flight attendant has gained immediate notoriety for his exit from the aircraft he served on. The media focused on rude passengers and this employees reaction to their behavior.
So what can we learn? The airline industry has created an environment that is toxic to it’s employees? Maybe. The economy is taking a toll on employees and passengers alike? Perhaps. Is it also a reflection of the leadership of Jet Blue? Definitely.
How do you treat your employees? Is there a measure of respect that goes both ways? Your employees are ambassadors of the company. What do their actions and words say about your company and company culture? Tough questions worth asking.
